What was the name of the childrens show with Hammy the Hampster and his friend the Guinea Pig?

I remember this show when it aired in Australia on the ABC nearly 20-25 years ago. It was live action with real animals and a man’s voice over. The man was either American or Canadian (I think).

The black and white hamster/Animal Series was called “Tales of the Riverbank.”

Then there was a spin off titled “Hammy Hamster’s Adventures” not too much later and was in color.

In the mid 90’s a company tried to make a modern version of the show. That one was called “Once Upon a Hamster” and lasted about three years.

I don’t know about DVDs, though.
