HISTORY

1978
In 1978, Larry and Claire Boggs left their home in Wichita, Kansas with their four young children to serve the Lord in the country of Guatemala. Their plans included “planting churches” and ministering to the native people. They did not know that God had special plans for them, plans they could never have foreseen.
1979
In 1979, Larry and Claire began work on their first church. As they were beginning their work, a woman approached Claire and said “Would you take my baby? I can’t take care of him”. Claire’s heart went out to this young mother and she happily took that little boy into her home. Claire then assisted in completing an adoption with a family friend in Kansas.
1986
Over the years Claire became known as someone who would care for sick or abandoned children. In 1986, the Boggs family had 12 children living in their home with them. It became very evident the God was leading them to open a home to care for all the children that were coming to them for refuge. They purchased a home to care for these children and it was named Refugio Baubtista (Baptist Refuge), later to be called Hogar Cuna.
1990
In 1990, Hogar Cuna became a licensed child placing facility. Larry and Claire began to have abandoned children referred to them from the Guatemalan courts for adoption.
1995
Special Delivery International was founded in 1995 in Wichita, Kansas by Larry, Claire and Daniel Boggs as an Adoption Service. Their vision was to provide a service to adoptive families to assist with the complexities of the vast paperwork required to complete an adoption in Guatemala. Over the past ten years, Special Delivery International has grown from assisting seven families in a year to over 70 in a year. The company has a staff of seven part-time employees, including two social workers.
2000
Over the next 10 years Hogar Cuna expanded to a second story and a medical clinic was built on the lower level. This clinic on the lower level of Hogar Cuna was converted to a private hospital run by local private physicians, including the Pediatrician who currently cares for the children.
2002
In 2002, work began on a second children’s home called “Nido Del Aguila” or “Eagles Nest”. Eagle’s Nest is located in the town of Solola, and is the new permanent home for the children of Hogar Cuna. The Hogar Cuna home was sold to the private physicians operating the Hospital. In the spring of 2005, the children waiting to be adopted were moved to Eagles Nest.
2005
Special Delivery International was approved as a licensed Child Placing Agency in the state of Kansas in March of 2005. They are also registered as a licensed Child Placing Agency in the state of Oregon.
